" La Sedeta, un fil a la memòria "

Synopsis

Genre: Documentary. The history of the Camp d'en Grassot district in Barcelona is linked to a textile factory, which was part, and evidence, of the social, political and cultural transformation of this district. In the memory of the Sedeta, the everyday life, the working conditions and the dreams of the former workers, many of them repressed by the old regime, coexist with the local movement that, during the transition, claimed for themselves equipment and green spaces on the land occupied by the factory. "From a place of worker exploitation to a place of culture for the employee" was the philosophy of the neighbours who created the Ateneu Popular on a participative and self managed way.

Comments by the composer

The musical ideas had been agreed from the beginning with the director. The musical structure should have a ? that would affect three themes, which would represent the times during which this building had lived. The first one was during the era the textile factory offered many jobs in the neighbourhood. For this one, I wanted to compose a swing with classical guitar, soprano sax and a sound arrangement with gramophone, recalling the 20´s. For the second one, the period of neglect, degradation and occupation by the neighbours, I wrote the same theme with a key of rock from the 70´s, with electric guitar with wah-wah effect and bass, which gave a raw and psychedelic sound.
And finally the last time is when the old factory is converted into public facilities. Its music appears in the end credits, where I chose to use instrumentation with piano, vibraphone, bass, guitar and drums, which gave a nostalgic and melancholy tone to the documentary.
